Lifting lint.

Let’s admit it. A blog post waxing poetic about dryer lint isn’t on the top of anyone’s list. And you won’t see it here either.

It’s an interesting byproduct: lint. When clothes roll around so much in hear and air, clothing fibers loosen, and become that funky, puffy substance. Luckily we have these ‘traps’ in our driers to help keep it together, rather than tumble out with the dried laundry.

So as part of the laundry routine, we need to clean the lint filter out.  But when you have a small laundry area, where do you put the fluffy stuff?

For me, I created something that saves space in my little laundry area: a hanging lint receptacle. Isn’t it super cute?

And it was simple to do!

I got a cabinet door size, wall mounted trash bin.

I added some adhesive lettering. I, obviously, spelled lint. But you can name it “Fluffy Stuff” or whatever you choose. Or chose not to add lettering. It’s up to you.)  You could also go a bit fancy and spray paint (with paint made for plastic) the bin to match your decor.

Then mounted the mounting strip to the wall with the included screws. (Of course, if you get one without a wall mount, you can always use Command Strips for such a task.)  Then attached the bin easily to the mounting strip.

Once the lint bin is full, simply throw it all out.

Or you can burn it.

I use the lint as fire starters for our fireplace and outdoor fire pit.  You can easily just put it as the base for your fire, or use up some of recycling and craft fire starter ‘logs’. I take tubes from toilet paper and paper towel rolls, and stuff them with the lint. Then, I wrap the rolls in packing paper from package deliveries or those weekly flyers I get in the mail that I should use to clip coupons to save money.  Just tuck the ends of the paper into the roll and place at the bottom of the fire.

Speaking about burning lint… More than 92% of laundry-related fires are the result of driers, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Often, this is the result of dryer lint traps that haven’t been properly cleaned. That alone reminds me to continue cleaning that lint filter, but the pretty lint bucket helps too!  One more peek:
